Basic tips on preventing security incidents
Here are the top five tips on securely working with information technologies and safely surfing the internet. We aim to help you actively prevent the threats you face in your day-to-day activities in cyberspace. The golden rule is not to underestimate prevention.
- Back up your most important data regularly, ideally in multiple locations.
- Always keep your operating system, software, and anti-virus protection up to date.
- Choose phrase passwords that are hard to guess and easy to remember (for example: "steel squirrel doesn't jump").
- Be careful what you share about yourself online.
- Think critically and question information - the internet is full of scammers.

Warnings and information
Warning: fraudulent email will probably be in your inbox too
The Cybersecurity Team of Masaryk University found a higher threat of phishing attacks, which aim to trick and manipulate users into behaving as the attacker demands. Therefore, we urge all Masaryk University users to be vigilant and cautious.
Why are universities increasingly being targeted by cyberattacks?
Attacks in cyberspace have become the new standard with the rise of digital technologies. These attacks take place every day. However, unlike physical attacks, they may not be noticed or even known by the target for long. If a significant attack occurs, it rarely makes it into the media and the general public's awareness. Did you know, for example, that Masaryk University faces such attacks almost daily?
